The only Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo was named as FIFA World Player of the Year for 2008 on Monday and became the first Premier League player to get the award which he well-deserved.The 23-year-old was in stunning form last term when he helped Manchester United to Premier League and European Cup success hitting 42 goals in the process, and he has added the FIFA World Player of the Year to the prestigious Ballon d'Or (European Footballer of the Year) which he has already received. To ad to all this personal awards, he also won FIFA's Club World Cup recently.

For the FIFA World Player of the Year 2008, he faced competition from fellow nominees Xavi Hernandez, Fernando Torres, Lionel Messi and Kaka. Eventually, Messi finished in second place and Torres came third ahead of fourth-placed Kaka and Xavi. With his outstanding performance in 2008, he deserved all this personal awards and club successes. In all Manchester United fans heart, we hope he can continue to maintain his outstandin performance or even hit a greater height.
